She's charming

Perhaps through a rose colored glass strewn with pictures of angels and fanciful things, we can look at our dear President's 10 year career in a different light. Let's say she really is our best President ever and that through her singular efforts, our economy grew, 2 million people were saved from poverty, and a big bundle of our debt finally got paid back. All the scandals attributed to her are just paranoid left-wing propaganda. As for the tortured, killed, and disappeared, its just a rogue general's shady doings kept secret from her. The President, is in truth, the messiah scorned at her own homeland, heaven's answer to our problems that goes on with her responsibilities regardless of the unceasing scandals.

If all of the above was true, then Obama's statements and attitudes towards our glorious leader during their brief meeting was apt. Goodness, she only got praises from America's soon to be legendary President. Praised to the extent that she was lauded for her role in pushing back terrorism and defending human rights. She was even given the title of US coordinator to the ASEAN.

Since Obama was clearly pleased about GMA, that means that I can safely imply that Obama does not think of her as a corrupt politician deserving of a stern talking down to. She clearly--from what I can tell-- is not someone, in Obama's eyes, who "clings to power through corruption, deceit, and the silencing of dissent".

Obama is the world's latest symbol of change and hope. With the left-leaning, pro-poor, pro-peace policies he has penned so far, he's living up to the hype he received during his campaign. Considering his current foreign policies track record like publicly declaiming disapproval of North Korea and Iran's tyrannical actions, he should have at least showed public distaste for the many issues of human rights violations and corruption charges that wrack our President's government.

Borrowing from my rich leftist education, I can imply that the US, whoever the President is, turns a blind eye to our government's wrong doings and even somehow financially support us to maintain us as their lone outpost in the south east asian region. With our politicians in perpetual alliance to the US, they in turn can exert their will to SEA through the Philippine government.

Perhaps for the US and the rest of the world, Obama really is the change they can believe in. For us though, it may just be more of the same, only gentler. We are after all, some sort of a protectorate of theirs. Our President going out of that meeting uncriticized is one of its benefits. As long as our Powers-that-Be are happy, the US can do whatever they want.
