Senate gathers various government agencies on mainstreaming SDGs on gov't policies and programs

Senator Pia Cayetano exchanged ideas with various government agencies to create a framework that ensures the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Committee on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Innovation and Futures Thinking, chaired by Senator Pia Cayetano, gathered representatives from various government agencies to exchange ideas on how to accelerate sustainable, ambitious and multi-sectoral solutions to address the country’s problems on poverty, low quality education, gender equality, and non-resilient infrastructure among others.

The hearing was conducted in consideration of Senate Bill No. 1362 or “An Act Creating a Framework for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.

“The intention of the hearing was to listen to each other and get a better understanding on what your agencies are doing.” Cayetano said.

There are 17 SDGs agreed upon by member-countries of the UN, including the Philippines. SDGs seek to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people will enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

Representatives from various government agencies were given three minutes to give suggestions and showcase their current implementation and efforts pursuing the SDGs with the guidance of Ambisyon Natin 2040.

At the end of the hearing, Cayetano assures that all suggestions and recommendations will be taken into consideration on drafting the framework.
