House approves provisional license of ABS-CBN until October 2020

With the approval of House Bill No. 6732, the House of Representatives allows the operation of ABS-CBN until October 31, 2020 under a provisional license.

Authored by House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, the House of Representatives (HoR) convened on a committee level to approve on second reading of House Bill No. 6732 granting ABS-CBN a provisional license to operate until October 31, 2020 while Congress continues to deliberate the renewal of the media giant.

According to Cayetano, the cease and desist order filed by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) promoted the House to hasten the passage of the bill.

Cayetano also added that the House was unable to tackle ABS-CBN’s franchise due to the number of bills relating to the administration’s priority projects.

In an earlier statement, Cayetano tagged Solicitor General Jose Calida and the NTC saying, “As for the sudden flip-flopping of the NTC and the unconstitutional meddling by the Solicitor General in the business of Congress, I promise you – there will be a reckoning,”.

Among the co-authors of House Bill No. 6732 are: Rep. Dan Fernandez, Rep. Raneo Abu; Rep. Roberto Puno; Rep. Jose Antonio Sy-Alvarado, Rep. Neptali Gonzales, II; and Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr.
