House panel commends medical frontliners

Frontliners in the healthcare sector were commended through resolutions passed by the House Defeat COVID-19 (DCC) Committee.

Rep. Ruth Mariano-Hernandez, in a DCC cluster meeting, raised several resolutions commending frontliners for their efforts and contributions in the country’s fight against COVID-19.

House Resolution Nos. 836, 843, 893, 894, 895, and 932 were approved in the meeting and was moved to make co-authors all members of the House of Representatives.

“I move that the committee approve all House resolutions and come up with one consolidated resolution commending and expressing the highest appreciation of the House of Representatives to all health care workers and frontliners for their commitment and heroism during the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.

House Resolution No. 878 authored by DCC cluster co-chairperson Rep. Angelina Tan was also approved citing frontliners’ courage in the continued rendering of their services in response to the pandemic.

The DCC cluster convened a technical working group in the same meeting to consolidate a series of bills that seeks to provide additional benefits to frontline workers such as hazard pay and measures to strengthen a safe working environment.

Data from the Department of Health show that at least 3,500 healthcare frontliners have been infected with the COVID-19 while 34 have passed away due to complications from the virus.
