In celebration of the Women's with Disabilities (WWD) Day on March 28 of this year, the National Council on Disability Affairs is spearheading the event in partnership with Congresswoman Ma. Angelica Amante-Matba, Chairperson of the Committee on Women, Gender and Equality and other members from the Gabriela Party-list, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department Labor and Employending ment, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Department of Trade and Industry, Philippine Commission on Women, Tahanang Walang Hagdanan and Women with Disabilities Leap to Social and Economic Progress, Inc.(WOW-LEAP)
This year's celebration adopted the theme "Making the Rights Real for Women with Disabilities!" which paves the way for the realization and attainment of their human rights as prescribed in the United Nations  Convention on the Rights of Person with Disabilities, specifically Article 6 thereof - Women with Disabilities. As stipulated in the treaty, it provides "that the States Parties shall take appropriate measures to ensure the full development, advancement and empowerment of women, for the purpose of guaranteeing them the exercise and enjoyment of the human rights and fundamental freedoms."

On this very significant occasion, a "Forum and Skills Demonstration on Entrepreneurship for Women with Disabilities" will be held at the North Wing Lobby, House of Representatives, Batasan Hills Complex, Quezon City from 9:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. This one-day affair will feature a skills demonstration on cake decoration and bar tending to be followed by an Orientation on How to Make a Project Proposal. Simultaneously, there will be a product exhibit and selling of products made by women with disabilities.

The celebration aims primarily to raise public awareness on the rights of women with disabilities in the Philippine Society towards their attainment of national freedom, civil liberty, equality and human rights provided under Presidential Proclamation No 744 issued on December 6, 2004 declaring every last Monday of March of every year as Women With Disabilities Day celebration.
