Philippines Communication Society: a Fitting Organization for Communication Professionals

The PCS is inviting communication professionals to register as new members!

The Philippines Communication Society (PCS) recently elected its new set of Board of Directors at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), with a good mix of academe from various universities and colleges, and media industry professionals.

What is PCS and what is its mandate? The Philippines Communication Society is an affiliate of the Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC) that embodies the communication discipline therein. Incorporated in June 1987, PCS is an organization of communication scholars, researchers, media executives, public information officers, corporate communication officers and communication professionals engaged in the promotion of communication as a social science discipline.

For the past years, PCS has actively partnered with various agencies and organizations for conferences, workshops and seminars. Annually, as well, it has the PCS Review, a peer-reviewed research Journal with the objective of sharing research studies, articles and interviews which the academe and the communication and media industry should have as resource material.

Immediate past President Ariel Sebellino (who is also ex-officio member of the current Board), Executive Director of the Philippine Press Institute (PPI), has been instrumental in driving a very active board, partnering PPI and PIA in its various seminars, notable would be the 2016 pre-National elections seminar on “Opinion Polls, Surveys and Elections” attended by more than 500 students and academe in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

It also assisted the UP College of Mass Communication in the recent Communication Research International Conference held September 2016 where more than 600 local and international members of academe participated with the theme: “Voices and Noises: Communication and Integration Within and Among ASEAN Communities”.

The new Board of Directors is headed by its President, Dr. Lourdes Portus of the UP College of Mass Communication. Vice President Dr. Margarita Acosta of Miriam College, Secretary Kriztine Viray of PUP, Treasurer Dr. Madeleine Quiamco of AIJC, Assistant Treasurer Liza Azarcon of AIJC, Auditor Dr. Joyce Arriola of UST, Public Affairs Officer Gina Lumauig (yours truly) of UP and PEPTarsus, Inc.
