Dell is hitting the road in 2011 with a mean machine dubbed the "Venue," and the race for the best handsets this year is very much on. Hang on to your seats, consumers! It's going to be one hell of a ride this year! For the wild and wacky race 2011, Dell put under the Venue's hood an Android 2.2, vibrant AMOLED display at 4.1 inches and 800 x 480, a 1GHz Snapdragon with 1GB ROM and 512MB RAM, 1400mAh battery, 8 megapixel AF camera with LED flash, Bluetooth 2.3 EDR, WiFi and AGPS.
The 4.1-inch Android 2.2-based smartphone was launched in Hong Kong only recently, beating the new year countdown by a full week. So MB Technews only got its unit delivered after Christmas Day, a belated but most welcome gift of a toy.
The new Dell Venue (international codename: Thunder) is based on Dell's new Stage User Interface (UI) and coupled with Dell's Own Shear Design Concept.
Dell's new "Stage" UI is a customizable user experience that simplifies access and usage of content. Users are a click or touch away from finding and enjoying their favorite content, be it streaming YouTube videos, browsing the web with Flash10, reading eBooks or the latest news on the 4.1" AM-OLED display.
The dedicated camera key enables instant access to the 8MP camera, so users can capture life as it happens and with perfect clarity. Sharing photos and videos on social networking sites is also just a tap away.
The top and bottom surfaces of Dell Venue are angled, looking as if they have been sheared off. This enables the front face to be larger, maximizing the display area and enhancing the user interface experience.
The elliptical shape of the Venue not only houses the optimal form factor for its internal components, but is also smooth and comfortable in the hand.
The Venue was designed to do more than just keep people entertained and connected to their friends and family.
The smartphone also is equipped with email services such as ActiveSync, HSPDA interface and integrated Wi-Fi, and compatible with Microsoft documentso. In addition, the predictive text feature and innovative Swype text entry provides a faster and easier way to input text, significantly improving productivity on portable devices for mobile workers.
"Whether you are a creative explorer seeking for the latest online entertainment or a business professional working on-the-go, the Dell Venue smartphone is your ideal companion, keeping you closely connected to those who are most important to you. The customizable Stage UI also helps make your life simple, as everything that matter to you most is just one click or touch away," Michael Yang, Dell vice president and general manager for Greater China consumer, was quoted as saying during the Hong Kong launch.
We can't say more aside from what we've gathered from other sources, hey, it's the holidays, give us a break!
But know this, we're getting some real kicks out of our short tinkering with Dell Venue. We love the feel of that Shear Design Concept thingy.
The Stage UI is a new, and easy, experience. The 4.1-inch WVGA AM-OLED display is a stunner. We noted the clarity of photos from the 8.0 megapixel auto focus camera with LED.
We're expecting a deluge of new handsets for 2011, enough to make us all crazy. Want our advise? Get the Dell Venue this year, and keep pace with the rest of the leading pack! – Article courtesy of Manila Bulletin
