They say women were supposed to be the more fashionable gender. It used to be that women were the ones who complained about the way their husbands or partners dressed.
That is until someone introduced the idea of ‘metrosexuality’ in the male psyche.
All of a sudden men were dressing as equally fashionable as their female counterparts. And complaining just as much too, about their wives’ or partners’ fashion sense.
So as a form of social experiment, editors at The Daily Mail decided to recruit four British men who feel like their wives have “let themselves go” and gave them the opportunity to style them any way they wanted to.
Says one participant about his wife, “My wife is beautiful — I’m a very lucky man. She gets admiring looks, but I hate seeing her slob around in her trackie bottoms.”
The question then becomes, how would a husband dress his wife if he could have a say on her wardrobe choices?
Turns out most guys actually have good taste.
One of the women was so pleased that she said she was “speechless” and “touched that he took so much care in choosing this [her ensemble].”
Not surprisingly, though, a couple of the ladies were not too sure about the clothes their husbands picked for them, especially after one was decked out in a cheap-looking mini dress and chunky high heels.
On the other hand, as fun and frivolous as this social experiment was, there was also a nugget of wisdom to be taken away.
“When women look in the mirror they see different things to men — they are always criticising themselves and thinking they need to diet, whereas we love women with shape,” said one of the husbands.
