The rich history of French cognac house Hennessy is replete with milestones. Founded in Cognac, France in 1765 by Irish aristocrat Richard Hennessy, the company's growth began with its delivery of cognac to the newly independent United States in 1794. Later, as it was passed on to Hennessy's son James, it expanded rapidly and has since become synonymous with excellence in the world of cognac. Today, Hennessy is the favorite and preference of world leaders, business decision-makers, celebrities, and discriminating drinkers who are passionate about Hennessy's fine products.
Yet time and time again, the connoisseur is drawn to the original Hennessy X.O. the first extra Old created in 1870 by Richard Hennessy. Some collectors buy the distinct bottles for investment purposes, while others bask in the knowledge that one of the world's finest cognac is sitting in their cellars just waiting for the perfect moment to be enjoyed. After all, cognac can be kept forever as long as it is stored in a cool place and not exposed to direct sunlight.
In 2006, the House of Hennessy released a more contemporary packaging design for the X.O's bottle and box. Sporting a new shade of plum, the box shows a modernized portrait of Richard Hennessy. Its left side carries embossed vine branches, a feature that is duplicated in the bottle.
Hennessy Brand Ambassador Arnaud Mirey was recently in the country to highlight the new designs and encourage the appreciation of X.O's elegance and superb qualities. The visit coincided with the celebration of 140 years since the creation of XO and the release of the limited edition, with only 100 bottles allocated for the Philippines. Called Opus 140, it may be expensive at Php7,000 per bottle, yet it remains in great demand with cognac lovers who recognize its true value. – Article courtesy of Manila Bulletin
