THE LOBBYiST condemns in the strongest possible terms the brutal carnage committed against more than 50 people, including unarmed journalists and women.

The victims were on their way to file certificates of candidacy for the May 2010 elections. Along the way, more than a hundred armed men blocked their way and prevented them from carrying out their tasks by murdering them, and reportedly raping the women before killing them in cold blood.

Such violence against persons was clearly intended to harass and intimidate those who want take part in a democratic process. This cannot and should not be tolerated.

But three days after the massacre, authorities have yet to show or clearly indicate that they have invited for questioning those who are widely suspected to have masterminded the dastardly act. Three days after the massacre, the people are clamoring for swift and decisive government action to bring the perpetrators to justice.

THE LOBBYiST calls on the authorities to use all the powers of the government to pursue the perpetrators of this brutal and inhuman massacre of innocent people, and give justice to the victims of this heinous act.
