American Dream

Tags: Faith Philippines

There was this scene in the musical play, MISS SAIGON, where the pimp portrayed by Jonathan Pryce was singing a song entitled “The American Dream”. The lyrics narrates his dream of being in America dressed in a flashy expensive suit and driving a pink Cadillac sedan. This is the imagination we all have about success.. This is what I dreamed when I came to America in May,1979. I was filled with great excitement to see Las Vegas with its bright lights and expansive casinos and Disneyland with its fun rides and eye-popping parks. When my brother in-law gave us our first tour of Seattle, we were amazed seeing the expensive waterfront homes and mansions.

US Pinoys for Good Governance hosted this conference which invited local speakers and Fil-Am conveners to discuss ways in which OFWs can help the new government to alleviate poverty and institute genuine democratic reforms in our country.

It is sad that despite the many ills that plague our country today, our president and the House are only concerned with preserving their power and enriching their greed.
