Zilch

A slang word for zero. Nada. Nil. This on-line column does commentaries on politics in general - that is, politics here and elsewhere, as it attempts to foretell the impacts they may cause to the everyday life of the Filipino nation. In doing so, the column does not only want to be informative, but maybe more so, to be entertaining and amusing to its readers

LP is like kindred soul to me.  I know so many good men and women from that organization and as early as 2004 when it was just a dingy Volkswagen they were riding, I knew that it was an organization that could be better than the rest because of its programmatic plans.  There was a vision, a mission, liberalism was defined and institutionalized in every advocacy they thought of and ultimately announced to all.  Theirs was the party of the future: ideological rigor, bright tomorrow, loyal core, and fighter for causes I held quite close to my heart.

In 2004, question was popped to me to join LP.  I said no because I wanted to see how they will be once they seize power and hold the levers of government.  In 2007, they were part of the opposition then but again there were instances when, to my appreciation, they do certain decisions for LP alone and not for the good of the opposition.  Already, you had the feeling of 2010 counter maneuvers especially when it came to who will be COMELEC’s predominant minority.

In the preps for 2010, LP then was pushing for a MAR candidacy for the presidency.  Then events led to a game changer and on 090909, the incumbent made an announcement that led to the rest being history.  So why blame LP?  Shouldn’t we be happy that LP, a kindred soul in the nation’s march for reform, won?  Lets deconstruct.  LP wanted to win and for them asking MAR to slide was the only way to ride the moment.  MAR, despite being president of the LP, decided to do so to protect the party his grandfather founded.  It was also a situation where, if he didn’t, the “political tsunami” would have swept him under.  The reality of the situation was, with the alternative, party strategists believed they got a winner.  For them winning was everything because once they got the palace, they can then institute reform.  Logical and sequential.

With the ticket, people were saying the yellow symbol was hoisted with the vice presidential candidate taking the cue as the workhorse in the tandem.  But the best-laid plans went kaput and the man from Makati, Isabela and Batangas became the VP.  Add to that ending the fact that Balay and Samar came to everyone’s attention, resulting in some people belittling LP from actually claiming victory for the incumbent president.  Some avid yellows were saying that it was not LP that made candidate Noy win the seat, in fact, some prophets et. al. kept saying had they not intervened, the sure win would have turned out to be a double dud and these is where the hold of LP as party in government wavered, shaked and lose ground. (TO BE CONTINUED)
