A slang word for zero. Nada. Nil. This on-line column does commentaries on politics in general - that is, politics here and elsewhere, as it attempts to foretell the impacts they may cause to the everyday life of the Filipino nation. In doing so, the column does not only want to be informative, but maybe more so, to be entertaining and amusing to its readers
Welcome to ZILCH! You will see my column depending on the support I will get from the online readers. Hopefully, you will find it entertaining, amusing and informative.
ZILCH can mean several things to some people. It is a slang word for zero. It was also a name of a mod clothing shop in New York City owned by the Monkee Davy Jones in the late 60s. But that does not mean I belong to such generation. Zilch is also a chant by the Monkees (hyperlink) on their Headquarters album. Zilch is also a dice game of luck and greed – just like politics, right? It is a term of contempt, generally with an overtone of resentment according to some. And there are other references to the word zilch but I will not go into that and belabor you with zero and nil, get it?
And it appears CHED Acting Chairman Romulo Neri is pretty much saying the same – that we will not get anything from him however hard we try to squeeze the guy until he is blue. Nada. Now there is such animal being introduced to protect information and discussions made between an alter ego and his/her principal as executive privilege but if you check the Constitution, there is nil.
It also appears that after the NBN-ZTE chapter, only former COMELEC Chair Ben Abalos is left hanging dry. Abalos was zipped fast, end of story. Whatever happened to the other stars in the moro-moro? DOTC Secretary Leandro Mendoza whom probably can be placed in a different circle of hell than the know-it-all and arrogant factotum in the person of Lorenzo Formoso II? Are there stars yet to be discovered when the drama was tentatively halted because of some cruise delights? Well, we will never know the truth because right now it has no value… a total zero.
So as our legislators are taking their break, we are in at limbo. Would there be a denouement or will it be a total zilch? Touche!
