Zhao Jianhua paid a “long courtesy call” to Duterte and also invited him to visit China in April for the second Belt and Road forum in the said month
People's Republic of China in the Philippines Ambassador Zhao Jianhua paid a courtesy call on Presodent Rodrigo Roa Duterte at the Malacañan Palace in Manila on the afternoon of February 20, 2019, primarily to discuss the implementation of the memorandum of agreements signed between the Philippines and China on “shared interest” between the two countries.
The two had a wide range of discussions and exchanged views on the latest development of China-Philippines relations, and spoke highly of the good momentum of the development of bilateral ties. They emphasized the importance of fulfilling the signed agreements and important consensus reached during the visit of President Xi Jinping to the Philippines and highlighted the pragmatic cooperation of the two countries in areas such as security, trade, and people-to-people exchanges as well as coordination on international and regional issues, in order to bring about more tangible benefits to the two peoples.
During the courtesy call, they also talked about the expected attendance of President Duterte to the upcoming Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation which is to be held in Beijing this April 2019. Ambassador Zhao said he would coordinate with the relevant Philippine agencies in preparation for President Duterte's visit. President Duterte thanked China's invitation and is keen to meet with President Xi once again.
Present were Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo and Acting Secretary of Foreign Affairs Enrique Manalo of the Philippines.
