Relief and Compassion: Tzu Chi Celebrates 25th Anniversary in the Philippines

Tzu Chi Foundation is one of the largest humanitarian organizations in the world known for disaster relief and community volunteerism. As part of its gratitude to all members, volunteers and donors for their incomparable contributions and dedication in helping Filipino communities, Tzu Chi Foundation will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary this coming November 8, 2019.

For 25 years, Tzu Chi Foundation has continued its advocacy in making Filipino livelihoods better through their humanitarian efforts throughout the country. The foundation has produced several projects that transcend the bounds of race, nationality, language and religion across the world.

With over 10 million members worldwide, Tzu Chi Foundation is one of the largest humanitarian organizations in the world known for disaster relief and community volunteerism. They spearheaded long term projects aimed at rebuilding and restoring the lives of affected communities. They have rebuilt homes, hospitals, schools and universities in areas where privilege is not accessible.  

Tzu Chi are guided by four missions: Charity, Medicine, Education and Humanity. 

Charity is classified as Long Term Aid or Immediate Assistance. Guided by the principles of sincerity,integrity, trust and honesty in all its missions, every form of aid is personally handed over to the beneficiary to maximize all the penny collected.

During Yolanda Typhoon, Tzu Chi created a“Cash for Work” program to encourage typhoon victims not just to clean up their homes, but recover from the trauma it caused. The goal of the program was to give hope and lead the victims to recovery.

Medicine refers to Tzu Chi’s commitment on making healthcare accessible across the country. Its medical services from Taiwan are adapted in its branches around the world. At present,seven hospitals are placed in strategic locations offering medical help and assistance. Tzu Chi’s built hospitals abolished the requirement of cash deposit before admission.

In the Philippines, Tzu Chi holds medical missions regularly to give free medical operations and surgeries to patients who have cataracts and other illness that needs surgical assistance. 

Education speaks of value formation. It serves as a direction and guidance of one’s path. It emphasizes learning about character, daily life and humanity.

The Tzu Chi Foundation in the Philippines have a livelihood program that provides out of school youth with an alternative education in Machine operation: Sewing; Welding; Aircon & Refrigeration Repair; Caregiving; Business Process Outsourcing & Computer Troubleshooting.These programs enable participants to become income earners within a short period of time. 

Humanity is intended to promote social harmony and peace through literary works. Daai TV, Tzu Chi Radio,Recycling Centers, Jing Si Book Shops and Still Thoughts Hall aim to exemplify the spirit of great love. These structures are made to release blessings in society, ignite the core value of a human being to help, care and respect life.

As part of its gratitude to all members,volunteers and donors for their incomparable contributions and dedication in helping Filipino communities, Tzu Chi Foundation will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary this coming November 8, 2019. The anniversary kick-off includes a press conference for friends from the media on November 7 at the Tzu Chi Great Love Campus, Sta. Mesa, Manila. The celebration’s activities include a Taiwanese Food Market, an ocular of the Eye Center facilities, Dental Clinic and Livelihood Center. The occasion coincides with the book launching of Ms. Alya Honasan’s “A Mission of Love” as she shares her story on 25 years of Tzu Chi Foundation activities in the Philippines.
