Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian sends Christmas and New Year Greetings to the Filipino People

The year 2019 is about to pass. Looking back on the year, China-Philippines relations have been moving forward steadily. The two countries are committed to peaceful and friendly coexistence.  Under the strategic leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Duterte, China-Philippine relations have ushered in a new "golden age".

The streets are full of Christmas atmosphere at this time in Manila. This is my first Christmas as Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines, and I extend my sincere greetings to the people of the Philippines. Christmas is a festival of peace and joy, and one of the most important festivals to the Filipino family, and also a wonderful moment of family reunion.

The special thing about Christmas is that you celebrate this wonderful holiday peacefully and happily with the people who are closest to you and who are most special to you. There are also 6 million Roman Catholics and 38 million Christians in China celebrating this festival.

Respecting and protecting freedom of religious belief is the Chinese government's basic policy on religion. China's Constitution and related laws fully guarantee citizens' freedom of religious belief. The Chinese government will, as always, respect and guarantee the freedom of religious belief of citizens, and strive to build the country into a modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and with a sound environment.

The year 2019 is about to pass. Looking back on the year, China-Philippines relations have been moving forward steadily. The two countries are committed to peaceful and friendly coexistence. Our economic and trade cooperation has continued to advance, and cultural exchanges have become increasingly close. More importantly, in the spirit of seeking common ground while reserving differences, both sides have been striving to constructively manage and address the differences. Under the strategic leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Duterte, China-Philippine relations have ushered in a new "golden age". Further promoting the China-Philippines comprehensive strategic cooperative relations has become the common aspiration of the two peoples.

The new year 2020 is around the corner, and it will usher in the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Philippines. The two countries are planning a series of celebrations ranging from political visits to economic cooperation, from cultural events to think tank exchanges. I look forward to working closely with my Filipino friends to further promote the China-Philippine relations and bring more tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries. I’d like to pay tribute to those who are committed to the friendship between China and the Philippines, and I count on your continuous support.

Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!
