In his June 15 address, PRRD, through the cabinets’ secretaries, provided an update of the country's status against COVID-19. PRRD responded to the questions concerning school opening, issues on resources, and the current situation of the country under the pandemic.
Addressing the nation, June 15, PRRD’s address started with Health Secretary Francisco Duque III’s presentation of Resolution No. 46-A which presents the recommended community quarantine status for various geographic areas. This was followed by Education Secretary Leonor Briones and her update on the status of enrollees, support and coordination with Local Government Units (LGUs), the roadmap for the targets and goals, the assistance that will be provided for students from various sectors of society, and the financial matters for the Department.
National Task Force chief implementer, Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr. provided the report for various regions’ update and in terms of hospital occupancy, the country is doing good. However, there are regions with various new cases – mostly from locally stranded individuals (LSIs).
Interior and Local Government Secretary, Eduardo Año, presented the readiness of the LGUs, field officers, police force, prison officers, and fire officers for the newly approved classification of various localities. Cases of corruption and anomalies from local officials are also in progress and already filed along with the strict enforcement of national and local laws.
National Defense Secretary, Delfin Lorenzana, provided the situation of the COVID-19 cases in the country – active, recovered, and deaths. On the Filipino repatriates, Sec. Lorenzana assured that the agency is continuing on its effort for the Filipino repatriates and acting in the fastest and most effective way possible – within 5 days at most.
Summing up the reports, Presidential Spokesperson, Harry Roque, highlighted the President’s approval of the recommended classifications for various regions and localities – Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), General Community Quarantine (GCQ), and Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ). Also, Roque reminded everyone that the threat of COVID-19 is not yet over for the country and that everyone must remain to observe social distancing, wearing of masks, and washing of hands.
Ending his address, PRRD addressed some questions concerning issues on tuition fees and school opening, issues on resources for various sectors of the society, and the current situation of the country against the pandemic. On issues concerning resources, the President stated that “we will try up to come up with something in the next few days”. “We will try to do it. We might not be able to succeed to bring all of it to the Barangay level, but we will try”, the President added.
PRRD reminded everyone again that “the battle of COVID is not over” and that everyone must always maintain the minimum health standards.
