A new iconic land mark is set to be inaugurated on April 5 by the Department of Public Works and Highways, together with the Chinese Embassy Manila. This is the Binondo – Intramuros bridge, among the “Build, Build, Build” program supported by China.
"Filipinos would enjoy more benefits from China-Philippines friendly cooperation," DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said.
The new 743 meter long, 3.5 billion peso steel basket-bowstring structure is to connect the 400 – year old Intramuros with the world’s oldest Chinatown in Binondo, Manila, and is expected to serve 30,000 motorists every day, together with active transport, having 4 lanes, bike lanes, and a walkway.
The Binondo Intramuros bridge is only one of the two bridges in Metro Manila to be donated by China – the second being the Estrella Pantaleon bridge which is to connect Mandaluyong and Makati. Together, the two bridges have an estimated value of over 5 billion PHP.
“China is willing to further deepen the synergies of the Belt and Road initiative (of China) and the Build, Build, Build program (of the Philippines to) push forward the cooperation projects according to the needs of the Philippines to help the (Philippine economy recover)," Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian said.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
