Former communist rebels gathered at the 51st anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law to unveil the truth behind the bombing of Plaza Miranda, which former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was known as the alleged mastermind and used the event as justification for declaring martial law on September 21, 1972.
Peter Mutuc or also known as “Ka Ramon,” lead convenor of First Quarter Storm and a first-generation cadres of Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) disclose that Danny Cordero, a fellow insurgent was allegedly ordered by Jose Maria "Joma" Sison, CPP founder, to throw the grenades in Plaza Miranda, Quiapo.
"Upang magalit ang tao sa gobyerno, magalit kay Marcos, at mag-alsa. (So, the people will become enraged at the government, enraged at Marcos, and revolt),” Mutuc reveals on the motive behind the Plaza Miranda bombing.
Jeffrey “Ka Eric” Celiz, a former CPP cadre and now a Secretary General of Sentrong Alyansa ng mga Mamamayan para sa Bayan (SAMBAYANAN) emphasized that “Hindi po gobyerno ang nagsimula ng kaguluhan at digmaang madugo sa ating bayan. It was indeed the CPP-NPA-NDF sapagkat ang hangarin nila ay hindi kapayapaan at kaunlaran kundi kapangyarihan. (It was not the government that started the chaos and bloody war in our country. It was indeed the CPP-NPA-NDF because their desire is not peace and development but power.)”
“Yun ang itinuturo sa amin na ang pag-bagsak ng gobyerno, ngayon ay agawin ang kapangyarihang pampulitika upang itayo ang isang sistema ng lipunan na kontrolado ng komunista. Una, sa sistemeng sosyalista papunta sa diktadora ng Communist Party na tatawagin nilang dictatorship of the ploretariat. (That is what taught to us. To seize political power after the overthrow of the government in order to build a social system controlled by the communist. First started in the socialist system, to the dictatorship of the Communist Party which they will call the dictatorship of the proletariat),” Celiz added.
The assembly was held in Ayala, Makati and convened by Peter Mutuc, Jeffrey Celiz and Nolan Tiongco. Representatives from League of Parents of the Philippines (LPP), Inc., Hugpong Obrero, Inc., Samahang Mahihirap para sa Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran ng Bayan (SAMAKA-BAYAN) Inc., Bantay ng Masa, at SamaKka Youth (SKY), among others were also present. The group launched Tindig ng Mamamayan para sa Tamang Pagtingin sa Kasaysayan (TAMAKA) which aims to advance peace by raising awareness among people on how the CPP-NPA-NDF ruined the country.
The group acknowledged the humanitarian abuse during martial law however, they believe that the declaration of martial law was necessary for former president Marcos Sr. to maintain peace and to protect the country from communists.
Moreover, the group addressed that the issue regarding the two young activists who claimed to have been kidnapped by the military was only a scheme of the CPP Urban Operatives to undermine the public's trust in the government. Celiz also advised President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. that there can never be unity with the CPP-NPA-NDF not until, and unless they surrender their arms.
